Cheap Parts - Nothing you did caused the failure
What I've seen Parallax (Paramode) like most of the other manufacturers including; PD, Iota and WFCO use the cheapest (poor quality) and lowest cost parts they can get their hands on. Lowest bidder wins, if the device lasts through warranty all is good. I replace the Chinese electrolytic caps with Panasonic caps which are about a 2x cost differential.
"Your" (My newest) converter is doing great at keeping our fishing boats trolling motor batteries charged up and ready to go for a day on the water.
