You may have shorted the thermistor. You can check that by seeing if there is any resistance across the legs. If it's shorted, the whole of the inrush current is going to the rest of the board. I would wait before powering that back on until you have the new thermistor installed.
Soldering tip: Remove the existing component by heating the lead and pad solder with your iron. Pull it out when the solder is molten. I usually dress the pad with a solder wick if using wick.
