So first I got four of the 5R020s ( at $16 including shipping for the four)) and put one in each converter so I have two more and the one in one charger broke but still works, except is it too hot to touch after 15 minutes. This could be because:
- it is partly broken, missing some of that black coating stuff, or
-Salvo is right that there is too much R for the steady state run after the in-rush is over
There is also the Joules thing--not clear if "more is better" on that. ISTR Ken wants more J.
We have a dispute over whether to get more R or less R, so now I have ordered four of these ( blowing another $16 :)--this is an expensive hobby! ) which have less R but more J which I was eying earlier:

I can try one 2R025 to replace the broken 5R020 in the one charger. If no good, I can use more in series to get more R again and also more J. (does J add in series?) I can go series or parallel with the remaining 5R020s or 2R025s too.
I have no clue what I am doing, so I can try different ways among the contradictory advice on this, and see what happens.
