Thanks again everybody for trying to explain things.
The way ahead seems to be getting more clear at least, where I can replace thermistors as need be, and we know that the converter does work with this sort of thermistor, at least for a time.
I can try the two types of thermistor. It might show that one size lasts longer. Or it may be that they both do ok as long as I only ever do a cold start and we will never know which is better.
I'll add to the thread if anything develops that hasn't been covered already, but it looks more like a long haul to gather evidence how long each type will last. No news would be good news, but won't help anyone betting on which is better--5R020 or 2R025 :)
