which is the driving factor, the diode bridge or the caps or what happens? We are so close to the finish line maybe, please, please! :)
BFL, the purpose of the thermister is to protect the series connected elements that connect to the capacitor.
The uncharged capacitor acts as a short and will therefore be a determining factor in the control of the initial surge current magnitude and duration as related to energy.
The thermister ohm value controls how quickly the capacitor charge (current) moves and therefore how quickly the energy is consumed/stored.
Ametherm says it protects the diode bridge, but it also protects all other series connected elements as well.
