Converter Output Voltage

Is there a battery hooked up to it? If so that's extremely high and will kil the battery fast.

Anything over about 14.8 is bad for a non-customizable setup.

I had actually removed it from the camper and had it on my workbench. So nothing was connected to it. I just plugged the power cord into the wall and checked the voltage at the two wires (red and white) with a voltmeter.

It is a separate unit located under the kitchen sink towards the front of the camper while the fuse/breaker distribution box is located in the rear bedroom.

Open lead voltage could be higher then the 14 volt normally seen.
In your vintage of rig, I would be replaceing the converter with a newer one. It will save you headaches and batteries down the road.

Thanks...Since the camper has a lot of water damage and I'm basically rebuilding it, I was leaning towards just replacing/upgrading to something better, including the entire distribution center/fuse/breaker panel.

Any recommendations on a new converter/power distribution center? I was considering a PDI 4500 series 50 amp power center like this:

This is a FERRORESONANT BATTERY VOLTAGE SUPPLY
It uses incoming LINE FREQUENCY to saturate the transformer which stops voltage from climbing.

ANY LOAD accessory that you put on the output that has in its internals an electrolytic capacitor will serve to raise output voltage. The higher the capacitance the greater the LC voltage.

This charger uses a massive BLEED RESISTOR to Dracula some output wattage to maintain the house battery. Expect 4-7 maximum amperage battery recharge rate.

The output power quality is dirty. The hum you hear is from the transformer.

Do yourself and the world a favor and put this thing in "Send To China" recyclables. It is a battery killer. It is an accessory killer.

I would need more information on the "camper".
Do you really need a fifty amp? Would a thirty amp 120 volt shore power be enough? You can get a 30 amp shore power feeding a
45 amp 12 volt DC output.

Yeah...I probably don't need 50amps. I just figured, if I was replacing it anyways, for a few extra $$, I may as well upgrade in case I ever want to add a 2nd AC or whatever. If there is a downside, please let me know.

Second air or 120 volt element for water heater would justify 50 amp shore power.
A few dollars now, could be beneficial down the road!
I would suggest thinking about all LED lights or at least LED bulbs for existing fixtures.

The OP wrote he has a camper. Perhaps it is not a camper like a camper for a pickup truck but something else - larger. A lot larger.
