Converter/charger and auto resetable circuit breaker

I just replaced my Wfco for a Boondocker converter/charger. My trailer came with a 40a breaker In between the charger and battery. The Wfco was a 55a charger, the Boondocker is a 60a charger. Will the 40a breaker affect the 60a Boondocker charger? I get 13.5 volts on the charger side of the breaker and only 12.4 volts on the battery side. I am going to replace the breaker. Should I go back with a 40a or a 60a?
  • Thanks will double check the wiring size and change to a 60a breaker. If I have to I will be pulling new wires.
  • Yes, the breaker will trip repeatedly until the battery charges enough that the current is lowered . I would replace the breaker with a bigger one if the wire size can take the current.
  • The wiring from converter to battery may be too long and thin to get you all 60 amps when charging a low battery, but it might not be that long and thin, so IMO go for the 60amp breaker.

At least you should get more than 40a.
