Anything over 15.4 volts risks burning out the computer boards that are so prevalent in "modern" RV's.
Why not measure the voltage when using the big charger when it is in the "boost/start" mode?
Any voltage that is above the acceptance rate of the battery only causes the battery to gas. One bubble per second is a good "go, no go" test.
I use temperature compensated charging myself.

What would happen do you think if I added a battery disconnect switch and powered the battery charger at 16V while I let the generator via the conventional power supply take care of the house needs at 13.8 during these special timer sessions? It does seem funny there are so many opinions, warnings and wories over exact voltages because I have one of those tall rolling 200 amp stand up chargers to start a dead battery and used it many times before and it doesn't burn anything out, the lights do get super bright I might add. No telling how many volts the "boost/start" setting on that beast feeds into a battery.
And speaking of that, I was in a RV store the other day and saw a contraption that is an auto-waterer for a lead acid battery. What will they think of next!
