The Trojans may give you (considerable) added lifespan and reliability rather than increased capacity.
x2. I'm assuming that Battery mfg. aren't going to fudge AH ratings, they don't want to get caught and have a class action lawsuit. Given that GC batteries are a standard dimension and going after a std. market, all the mfg seem to have two or Three AH rates, at or near what Trojan's are. And they are going to target reasonable cycle life to 50% DOD since the vast majority are going into golf carts, not RV's, so cycle life is important.
How many of us need anything remotely close to the 1200 cycle life @50%DOD (after 1200 cycles capacity is 50% of new) that trojan's are rated for in our camping??? A few of the mostly full time dry campers yes, but for the average camper who is still working full time, the costco/sam's etc. should serve very well.
we dry camp a lot, retired so we are out quite a bit, so for us and our financial situation I went with Trojans, but for some of our friends I say it isn't worth the money for your application.
My opinion (and like Mex it's just opinion) the biggest killers of GC batteries (or any deep discharge flooded cell lead acid battery) are either not monitoring the water level or letting them get discharged and not getting them fully recharged in a reasonable time frame.
And both of these cases are pretty easily preventable.
I guess we should be thankfull for all those golfers to help support our camping with affordable deep cycle battery choices.
