Damp and Mould

My trailer is just 5 years old now. I opened up for season and noticed a damp spot in the carpet. its close to the back corner opposite the entry door but I noticed the back quarter panel feels soft close to the floor. I cant see where the damp is coming in. it may be coming in via the lower portion of the slide-out seal that is approx. 1 foot away from the water stain in the carpet.
i have no idea how to replace a lower panel or part of a panel, also, how do i find where the water comes in? i have been up on the roof but cannot find and flaws in the sealants. Is the slide out seals easy to replace? It is a Jayco 2009 G4 RLS29 model
  • A pressure type leak test will turn up the water intrusion points.
  • At about 5 years roof sealant fails often sooner. Caulk all roof vents and seams. Pull up corner of carpet and put a fan on it for a week.

You may at the end of the week have to open the wall and replace wet wood. Any windows above the area? The slide leaking should be wet at the bottom of the slide area. If not probably roof leak. Roof should be sealed any way at 5 years and that is stretching it.

    Pogoil.
  • You say the water stain is in the carpet. Why not pull the carpet back and examine the floor and see if you can pinpoint the leak. You need to pull the carpet back anyway to properly dry the spot and mitigate any mold that may be forming.

As for repairs, once you expose the area, take a couple of pictures and post them on the forum. I'm sure you'll get lots of ideas on how to proceed.
  • Water can travel distances from the leak and where it becomes noticeable.
1st you need to find the leak and stop it. Once you done that, you can focus on repairs. One way to check for leaks around the slide is to wait for darkness and have someone inside the camper with a flash light and shine it around the slide seals, Look for light leaks from the outside. Keep the curtains closed and use a strong light.
