DC Hz and duty %
I've been trying to measure PWM frequency in abs with both probes of a DMM, with just one probe I get a reading of freq and duty cycle %. Do I only need one probe? Seems for AC, one probe I get...

The non-connected probe is acting as an antenna and is picking up 60 Hz through the "air".
You need to connect both probes. There isn't going to be much of a signal at the output of the charge controller. The battery will keep voltage at Vabs. You're better off measuring the input to the charge controller. In other words the panel voltage. It will have two states, either Vbat or Voc (open circuit panel voltage).
