We believe all of the buggers are gone to rat heaven, thankfully. Most of the order is isolated around the compartment that holds the furnace, water heater and mostly in the electrical cabinet which is under the toilet room.
The worst of the smell is in one of the basement sections which is isolated from the larger basement but is connected to the electrical area under the toilet. That whole compartment is contaminated with bad odor.
I saw a spot where it looked like something may have decomposed but it is all gone now, I suspect (hoping anyway) that the dealer or prior owner found the remains and already removed them.
The urine smell is only in the basements, no where inside the unit so I think I can remove cats from the equation.
When the heat is blowing, we get an initial blast of odor but then it goes away until it sits without use again.
There were many holes eaten through several of the heating ducts but all have been repaired, not replaced (ughhh). We found no holes along the pathway of the hoses but only at the ends of the pathway.
So far I like the ozone idea as I have heard of that one before. Thanks for the great input!
I sure would like to know who owned this unit before but not getting any help from the dealer. I'd like to know what else we might expect.
