I am not going to mention the dealer where we bought the unit but they used lots of dryer sheets, everywhere (in every drawer, cabinet, and closed space).
This is a recent purchase, right?
The dealer putting in all those dryer sheets says to me that there was an active rodent problem that they were aware of- and probably "cured" by the simplest means: D-con or some other rat poison. It's commonly misbelieved that rodents go outside desperately searching for water after eating warfarin- nothing could be further from the truth. They usually curl up somewhere near their "home", die and decompose there.
And the bad smell is only the first stage of the resulting nuisance. That will dissipate as the rodents dry up, but if the event took place during fly season I guarantee that eggs will have been laid in the carcasses and you'll soon have a fly problem too. I tell you this from experience...I was cured of poison use in habitable places by living through such a scenario.
I think it likely that there are more than one dead bodies in your rig, and if I were in your position I'd be raising cain with the dealer. This again assuming it's a recent purchase and came with the telltale dryer sheets, proof positive that he/they knew there was an infestation in the rig when they sold it to you.
