I have doubt about this claim of using less energy, but have not performed the calculations. Have you?
It's really pretty obvious without calculations. The A/C is removing moisture and hot air, then the lost hot air has to be replaced by running the heater. A dehumidifier is an A/C that doesn't exhaust the warm air to the outdoors.
