- buckyExplorer IIMy Yammy measures 0 DB at 15,000 yards. So there. Nanny nanny boogers.

IF Honda measures their Db levels @ 9' then it's for a reason. IF they were significantly quieter than the competition @ 23' I'd bet the farm their marketing dept would tell us all about it. I suspect (I'm admittedly a skeptic of all marketing) that Honda found a way "truthfully" publish lower db's that may or may not reflect an actual side by side noise comparison. At the end of the day the red and blue ones are damn quiet but the yellow ones are catching up.
BINGO!!!!!
Different manufacturers have different test parameters and since there no "standard", why should they get together to form one? The exact same thing happens in battery land.
Rather than beat this thing to death, take their DB specs and adapt to the competition distance specs. And move on. Why keep calling people, even at the company that can't even agree. - JiminDenverExplorer II

BINGO!!!!! - JiminDenverExplorer IIWith that said all I can hope is I'll never have to camp next to someone with a generator who's noise levels are measured at 23 feet.

With this I have to agree. Not because any one generator is quieter, they all make the same HUM inside the trailer. So I hope you don't have to park next to or subject anyone to a generator at all. We parked next to someone running a EU3000is once, so much for using campgrounds. - 8ironExplorerIF Honda measures their Db levels @ 9' then it's for a reason. For what it's worth I just got off the phone with Cesar at Honda Customer Service. I explained the confusion and discussion were having. I asked him if ALL Honda generator dB's were measured at the same distance? He stated YES 9feet (3 meters) Cesar can be reached at 770-497-6400.
I for one feel we've beat this subject to death. I've got nothing more to add.
I don't. I have no idea who "Cesar" is, nor do I care to get yet another CSR's interpretation of what he's been told to say ... I'd prefer a definitive answer from an authoritative source such as robert_at_honda, then I'd be inclined to believe what we're being told. - C_B_Explorer IIMy laptop for some reason will not download the pdf file.

* Noise levels at rated load to reflect maximum noise level possible, measured at 9 Feet (3 Meters) from the control panel side of the generator.
I don't really care but I do find it odd that Honda publishes the same Db levels from different distances...wonder what the real level is and how does it differ from their direct competition (Yammy) and the newer Chinese inverter genny's that have to be taking wallet share from both the blue and red ones.
And to further confuse the issue Honda Canada says noise measurements are made at "1.5 metres to 7 metres" ... whatever that means. :h
Sure would help if we got some clarity on the subject from robert_at_honda and his Honda engineer colleagues in Japan. - 8ironExplorer
