Did I Do a Dumb Thing?

Hi Everybody,

Yesterday I changed the spark plug in my Onan and I then poured a can of Sea Foam in the gas tank of the Minnie, 55 gallon tank is half full (28 gallons?)! I then realized I need to get the Minnie in for a smog test! Will the Sea Foam mess me up? Anyone out there have an experience they would like to share?

Regards,

Norm

Yea they never recommend any other brand than the ones they sell, you need to go to the parts department at any dealer of your choice and ask for fuel injector cleaner and they will show you what they recommend..

    :D

Most of the big oems market their own or recomend someones injector/ combustion chamber cleaner. BMW recomended Chevron Techron by name for many years, now their recomending Chevron gasoline with Techron.

  • Seafoam will not mess up a smog test, I know this because I have been there OPer, never a problem, and yes seafoam does help clean the carb/injectors.

Just don't use it all the time, once a year is plenty..
  • If you're worried about the smog test, pour in a quart of isopropyl alcohol. It's sold as fuel deicer.
  • Since no one knows the answer but all somehow feel compelled to post something, you are seeing a variety of answers. If anything, Dave H M's post is the most accurate but I don't know either!

At the risk of starting a huge debate, just what is the purpose of seafoam ? All modern oils and gasolines contain detergents to reduce sludge. I'm a strong believer in preventive maintenance. None of my cars, even when they hit 200k ever showed any signs of sludge buildup. A buddy of mine took his valve cover off on a honda with almost 300k on it and there was no sign of sludge buildup. So, what am I buying with seafoam? Again, not starting a debate, just wondering.

Wonder no more. You are buying the peace of mind that you DID do something to keep you engine(s) running nice. Will it help? Who knows

  • If anything, I think it will help. make sure you let her get out and go before the test.
