Diesel engine hard to start. But runs great.HELP

If it's like a friends cummins MH with no glow plug, it has a either (sp) starting canister that gives it a shot of either to start. Canister empty= hard start.

however, do NOT under ANY conditions hit it with a can of starting fluid unless you absolutely know there are no glow plugs or grid heater or diesel burner air heater.

Doing so can easily do serious damage to the engine.
