For the first few years, we never used our AC even once, but were camping up/down the west coast. Now that we've been venturing eastward in the past few years, I now understand how critical having an AC unit is. As well, temps are getting higher around the world each year.
Reading all the posts out there about how so many RV owners aren't able to get the inside temps down low enough on one AC unit, isn't there something the RV manufacturers can do to improve things? Better insulation would be a starting point. Ceiling spaces are typically poorly insulated. I can't believe how hot it gets inside cabinets. Would putting some rigid foam at the back of cabinets help much I wonder?
Is a slightly larger BTU AC unit than 15K possible? I'd gladly have an AC unit drawing 20 amps (on a 30 amp service) and having to do some more careful demand control/monitoring. But this is likely to cause more voltage drop issues in CGs and the NEC won't have provided for the higher demand.
Are there higher efficiency AC units? Could AC units be mounted under the floor somehow where it's cooler and not exposed directly to the sun (thinking of trailers)?
Do double pane windows actually help much? We wanted to order them when we ordered our TT but the manufacturer had just stopped offering them.
I have a feeling going to a 15K AC unit won't help a whole heck of a lot. When you're toughing it out inside at say 85F, a couple of degrees lower is still pretty tough.
Oh, and ya gotta have an autoformer to keep you going if you come across low voltage in a CG somewhere.
