Dimmer for led lights

My trailer has six led ceiling lights. Rather than turning the individual lights off I would like to install a dimmer for the lights. The lights are 6 watts each so a total of 36 watts. Has anyone installed a dimmer?
  • Get cataracts like me. Dimmer? You got it!

I wonder why exactly and precisely the same amount of current is consumed at the lowest (dimmest) voltage setting as it is at the highest?

There are two kinds of LED lights (Dimmable and not) and two kinds of dimmers (Voltage/resistance and PWM) Most LED's should dim with PWM but it has been known to cause radio frequency interference (Though you may not notice it,, I might if I'm next to you.... Different radios)

I just converted a 30 watt Florescent to LED 5 Meters of peal and strip lights, some soldering and WOW.. Much mnore light than the old fixture did.. (I LIKE IT) it's my kitchen light.. I think when I convert the other two I'm going to use only 2.5 meters of LED's (they are smaller fixtures to start with)
  • Yes, Amazon's cheapest:

There are many different sellers of this same unit. I employ two and they even work in series with each other.

BUt at some point the LEDs just shut off. I wouldn't mind a little more range downwards, but the ability to dim at all, is awesome.

This link has good pics which shows the internals, but is not the cheapest available clone. I removed the bulky plastic housing to mount them where desirable.

I was not able to detect any difference between the 'prime' arrival and the $2.22 slow boat from china model.

I also have a PWM motor speed controller rated at 10 amps which effectively dims LEDs and incandescents, and computer fans, but it is much bulkier.
I actually used the linked product to slow a 4 amp computer fan. When I used the higher rated 10 amp PWM controller, the heatsinks got so hot as to be able to burn my fingers when throttled all the way back.

The LED dimmer powering the same fan, throttling it back to minimum speed, without heatsinks, never batted an eye and if it heated up, I could not smell it.

I shoulda installed the pwm dimmer sooner. Love it.
