Most people who come into contact with DIN thru audio cables or replacing their vehicle radio

Din institute developed the standard that automobile and electronics mfg, now follow regarding sizing and mounting of audio video electronics
They are responsible for most standardized connectors for electronic of all kinds, including computer plugs for mouse, joystick, gaming video etc..
And had little to do with American leading in technology

Those of old enough remember, when there was no standard size mounting, face plate or design for vehicle radio, and installing anything that did not come from the factory was a diy custom install
