- I_am_still_waynExplorerIt is not worth it. Tell me, when was the last time you had tire damage that was not repairable? For me, it was about 30 years ago. Figure you will damage a tire beyond repair very 20 years or so. They want $64 plus tax to protect the tires. If you are unlucky enough to damage a tire beyond repair, not likely, then how much more than $64 will it cost to replace a tire? Maybe $40? Are you willing to spend $64 to save $40 IF AND THAT IS A BIG IF you damage one tire?
- BB_TXNomadA solid NO in my opinion. Discount Tire's plan overs replacement due to a tire failure or manufacturer defect IF it still has legal tread left and is not older than 3 years. I have had one tire failure beyond repair that I remember in 50+ years and a million + miles of mine and my DW's driving. Had I paid all those protection plans for all those tires I would have wasted a lot of money.
Ask youself. How many tires have you had to replace due to failure rather than wearing out.
You get free flat repair at Discount even if you did not buy there. - westendExplorer

Yup, that's when you need it.
Is it worth it?? I guess that depends on whether or not you have a serious tire problem. Kinda like fire insurance. Its only nice to have when the house is on fire.
I just bought 4 new tires at Discount. They added in the warranty and, for $60, I didn't quibble. I had the same warranty with Tires Plus and used it to replace a $250 tire on my truck that experienced sidewall damage. I had another tire that developed a sidewall bulge and brought it back for replacement. Unfortunately, my Lifetime Warranty was only four years, Tire Plus's definition of the tire's life so no free replacement. YMMV. - tbredExplorer IIWe went ahead and purchased it for all our vehicles and have used it many times for repairs. It really paid off when dd's tires were slicker than they should have been in snow after 20,000 miles. Discount tire applied original purchase price toward new tires of our choosing.
- ktmrfsExplorer IIYes and no. I don't use it on my truck tires, chances of flat/damage to tire with these is minimal.
I do use it on my trailer tires and mercedes with 40 series tires. and it paid off. Hit an expose water main cover and blew a front tire on the benz, a bulge in the rear. Middle of knowwhere (well montana) Called discount tire. No store nearby but they checked around the town I was in and couldn't find anyone with the same tire I had. The said we can overnight tires to you, (well fri pm so they would arrive monday am) to a store in town. for installation. Well I needed to leave on sunday, that option out. OK then you can buy two new tires to replace the two damaged, any brand, same speed rating etc. When you return we will cut you a check for the tires and installation and install replacements for the tires you had. So I bought two new tires and they cut me a check when I came back and installed new replacements for the tires I had. So for $32 I had tires costing about $200 each replaced. Not bad. paid off. BTW they didn't require me to return the damaged tires, I just took pictures.
Last fall DW picked up a sidewall nail in one of the 40 series tires, same thing replaced it with a brand new tire for free.
And I got it when I purchased my Maxxis TT tires. Asked them if the same procedure would occur in case of a flat that the replacements would be Maxxis LRE and if in the middle of knowwhere I could get whatever I could find and they would replace when I returned. Answer was yes.
So, for my TT tires and low profile I figure it is worth it. For my truck, nope. - powderman426ExplorerIs it worth it?? I guess that depends on whether or not you have a serious tire problem. Kinda like fire insurance. Its only nice to have when the house is on fire.
- Probably not worth the $16 but I went for it to get a free replacement if unrepairable for any reason during the first three years.
- 2oldmanExplorer IIJust had the same thing happen at Big O for $20/tire. I took it. I guess that's the new way of keeping the price down on the actual tire.
