To the OP, you could rig a tarp tent, just need a couple of sturdy up right poles that could be driven into the ground (two trees could be used if available), some rope and tent spikes and a cheap small tarp..
Run rope between the poles or trees, throw tarp over rope and spike down the ends of the tarp that hit the ground.. This leaves the entry and exit points of the rope open which allows air to flow through but keeps most of the rain and snow away from your gen..
Myself, I have a nice cover over my truck bed I can open up some which allows me to run the gen in the bed in any weather..
