I had a friend with the exact same problem. He had rubber portions of supply lines collapsing due to heat, kinking, and high vacuum. (vacuum via fuel pump pulling fuel from tank) What made it so hard to figure out was everything looking normal in the shop under cooler conditions. I think it was a TSB which came out and the dealer notified him of the problem and repaired/replaced sections of the supply line. Wish I had more detail.
I think this is it. I remember something about firewall and hot transmission = soft rubber.
I'm betting also this is the ptoblem. Duramax has no "pusher" pump at the tank. It pulls it's fuel by vacuum from the tank. Any line collapsing or leaking air in would cause this.
