Three other scenarios have happened to me.
1.There is a TSB on the fuel filter mount itself. In some cases the casting develops hairline cracks and sucks air.
2.If using Delco filters, upon removal, be sure that the center seal comes off the spout. It will come out of the filter and stay on the adapter and it is possible to get another filter on...but it may suck air.
3.Bad fuel! If you are lucky enough to get a bad dose of fuel...it will eat fuel filters until it gets cleaned out and treated. Look for worm like algae in the filter...if so, it is growing in the tank and lines too! I use a Power Service product to remove algae.
I have all service done by the dealer so I don't get to tear open the old filter to have a peek. It did have a lot of miles on it, but the problem persists with the new filter. Last trip was only a few days after the new filter.
