They obviously "work" but something is dragging down the voltage. I've checked for loose connections at the battery but not at the converter or panel. I guess that's next.

Please clarify if you are on shore power or not. Are the "breakers" 120v or DC?

WHAT circuit breaker? If 120 vac then it would seem your converter was running full tilt trying to charge a depleted battery while also trying to supply sufficient power to run the furnace. Ok first how much battery did you put in?The main breaker Tripped and reset? Is it a self resetting thermal type and how big. That should not happen unless it needs replacement.Please give us a lot more infoBattery type and size (IE: Group 24, Pair of GC-2, multiple Group 29s, MARINE/deep cycleBreaker type and size.

Also was the new battery fully charged before use? Many times off the shelf are not.

I had 2 Walmart group 29s. One was 7 years old. I replaced with a single group 27 from Autozone. Yes, I put it on my charger for 6 hours before installing it. The breaker I'm talking about is a 12V auto reset - I've never looked at the rating. The cable from the battery goes to the cutoff then to the autoreset breaker then to 12V distribution. There are several auto reset breakers for things that don't run through the fuse panel - like the front jacks and slideout controllers.I know a Group 27 isn't much battery but it was a stopgap measure until I decided what I really want. It shouldn't go flat on furnace only in 20 minutes - it should run for hours.I'm thinking the autoreset breaker needs to be replaced or the cutoff.BTW, checked the 12V cables into the fase panel and they're tight. Next will check the battery and then the buried converter if I find nothing at the battery.

The breaker was failing. The switch shows quite a bit of resistance. I'd suggest to spray some electronic cleaner into it. Caig Deoxit 5 in a spray can is what I use. It lubricates just a little but it removes corrosion.

Yes, your Grp 27 isn't going to provide much capacity even when new. Will it be enough for you, I don't know. I'd suggest to install 2 x GC2 6V as replacement. Their construction allows for longevity with RV use.

Good luck with the 12V, at least you got to inspect everything.:)

Could be.

The battery negative has one cable that goes to the frame and one that goes to generator start.

The battery positive has one cable that goes to the battery cutoff and one that goes to generator start.

When I changed the relay, I put the copper stud on the copper relay bus and the output from the cutoff switch to that stud. The house feed went to the silver stud of that relay.

Didn't change anything else.
