Do battery cutoffs and auto-reset breakers ...

...fail in such a way that they reduce battery capacity?

I put a brand new battery in my rig but this morning 20 minutes of furnace dropped the voltage enough that the main circuit breaker tripped then reset a few seconds later.

The only things between the battery and the 12V distribution panel and the cutoff and breaker (and the converter). They obviously "work" but something is dragging down the voltage. I've checked for loose connections at the battery but not at the converter or panel. I guess that's next.
  • The breaker was failing. The switch shows quite a bit of resistance. I'd suggest to spray some electronic cleaner into it. Caig Deoxit 5 in a spray can is what I use. It lubricates just a little but it removes corrosion.

Yes, your Grp 27 isn't going to provide much capacity even when new. Will it be enough for you, I don't know. I'd suggest to install 2 x GC2 6V as replacement. Their construction allows for longevity with RV use.

Good luck with the 12V, at least you got to inspect everything.:)

it could be you have some electrical mis-wire problems
    Could be.

The battery negative has one cable that goes to the frame and one that goes to generator start.

The battery positive has one cable that goes to the battery cutoff and one that goes to generator start.

When I changed the relay, I put the copper stud on the copper relay bus and the output from the cutoff switch to that stud. The house feed went to the silver stud of that relay.

    Didn't change anything else.
