As I live in a hurricane area (Louisiana near Baton Rouge) here are my thoughts. First of all, the portable generators are nice to run a refrigerator, etc. But you need a large generator to run an A/C or a lot of the stuff in your house.
RV - Honda would be a welcome addition if they made something along the lines of Onan's LP and diesel gennys. The bad thing about the small portables, is that they can be stolen easily. Also, the fuel tank only allows for so much running time.
These are a few of my thoughts. But since you are on an RV forum, then maybe RV use should be considered?
