Honda and Yamaha are currently making small scooters for sale in the USA w/ cat converters and fuel injection. Several of them are selling in the 3000 dollar range. Motor vehicles, liability, some built in USA, more complex products than generators. Weight, cost, etc. is a minor concern for 3000 watt generators or above. In my opinion there is absolutely no reason this technology cannot be applied to larger portable generators. None. Can't be done.. but someone will do it, just a matter of time. Catalyst incorporated in muffler housing. Fuel burn is so low on these units that any additional catalyst heat could be dealt with with minor changes. Fuel injection has little weight difference vs. carburetor, choke linkage etc. Battery exists in larger generators already.
As for the "green" ness of RV etc. my desire is not based on large scale air pollution levels-what you ask for is not relevant. It is close proximity exhaust odor and CO, and the hassles of carburetor primarily altitude adjustment, and clogging issues. I want better, I've owned it on other small engines at reasonable cost.
