The 1 micron filter is to filter out inevitable debris of which my living down here makes me acutely aware of. When my day tank was built (100 liters) the RAcor caught an unbelievable amount of detritus. I would expect no less from a home brew separator tank.
I should have pointed out in the beginning I guess that mass separation of lots of gasohol would be impractical. This is aimed at low volumes, like mowers chain saws and outboard motors.
My say tank has a pyramid shaped bottom with drain valve at the apex of the pyramid. A stainless steel 1/4" Globe Valve. The pickup is on the base of the pyramid (remember everything is inverted) I fill the day tank after use, during the non use intervals not only does the water go to the bottom, so does the settled debris like imported rust and dirt.
Nest is a 30 micron spin on Detroit Diesel filter then comes the RAcor. I have to change the Detroit filter every six months, and the pricey S filter once every 2 years or so (mostly for drill). Because the Kubota was upgraded to use a micro Isuzu turbocharger, it meant lots of parts had to be changed, The fuel injection pump was hand built by a wizard in Long Beach. Not something I want to gamble with.
Jesus has a smaller RAcor used when transferring fuel from drum to 40 liter translucent white lancha tank, I really need to get a second filter for him. Plus a used 60 hp Yamaha engine.
