One cannot have too many different charging sources.
My grid powered charging source is a Meanwell rsp-500-15. It will charge at 40 amps upto any voltage I desire, upto 19.23v.
My alternator is thickly wired, and my Vehicles voltage regulator allows 14.9v to be attained. Either of my batteries when depleted can max out the '120 amp' alternator. 60 amps at startup( 800+ engine rpm) is the minimum output into battery when the battery is depleted, but output is not impressive at Hot idle speeds.
I only have 198 watts of solar. I reduced overall battery capacity to increase charge rate from the solar and am happy enough with the results.
200 watts by itself can usually return my overnight usage +some more, but it does not make My AGM happy. The AGM responds so much better to the Meanwell's 40 amps or the alternator's 60+ amps. The solar can finish off the AGM with the low and slow, but when the SOB is depleted, I hope to quench it with everything I can muster.
I have no generator, and no desire to own one. If I drag my battery too low and the sun is hiding, it is time to drive. I wont idle my engine to recharge, except perhaps in an emergency, as my hot idle speed( 525 rpm), amperage is not impressive, but I still need to see what my recently installed 50/120 mopar remanufactured alternator can do at idle.
