277 minutes after 14.4v is attained at battery terminals,to taper to 0.5% of capacity, sounds just about right from my observations on both the lifeline gpl-31XT and my Northstar group 27.
I have been rather surprised just how long it takes when I plug in my Meanwell an hour or 2 after dark and 3 to 5AH have been removed from the battery. Still well over an hour at 14.45 before amps taper to 0.4.
I am going to add another data point in my charging. A thermistor for My DMM will be attached to the Northstar 27AGM, and future T-1275. I am curious how much it heats up, and how long it takes to catch up to ambient temps, located where it is.
Jim In Denver, sorry to hear about the Megawatt. I took some steps on my 350 watt cheapowatt to better remove heat, such as a 60MM noctua fan exhausting from outside the case with the grille removed, and filing the internal aluminum heatsinks flat so they would mate with the casing better. Then I sacrificed it to science by refusing to twiddle the Voltage pot to keep it just under 36 amps. 17 minutes producing 538 watts before the magic smoke escaped
My Meanwell's thermal grease was not applied liberally enough either on a few transistors, which was rectified when I added the 10 turn pot.
These things were not designed to operate at 100%+ output for hours. My 500 watt meanwell will output 600 watts. Extra fans and heatsinking, in my opinion, is mandatory, when used on a greedy battery bank that can max it out all day long.
I only charge a single group27 AGM with my meanwell and it will gobble up 40 amps for at least 45 minutes when drawn down to the 50% range. Exactly how long depends on how much voltage drop is on my wiring, if I am there to monitor it I will just crank voltage upto 15 or higher, and only lower it once the battery touches 14.5v.
If yours failed whilst floating fully charged batteries, then I do not think heat was the causation. Does it have that smell like it released the magic smoke?
Was it floating while the solar took over and brought voltage higher than the 13.2-4v you had it set at?
