Egad, and out come the Bonanza references :)
The pitch of the fan noise is what I find bothersome, as well as cycling on and off.
If this is not a concern, then check out this fan:

I could not help it, and in a moment of weakness, I ordered this fan. I was hoping a PWM motor speed controller could tame it to manageable levels, but at about half of maximum speed, which is still incredibly loud and powerful, it shuts off if turned any lower. There are other versions of this particular fan and perhaps those can be throttled down to manageable levels, but I'll never personally discover this possibility
This is a heavy fan, and it will lift off and hover ~1cm off a flat table when 12.8v is applied. It pulls 4 amps at 14.34 volts and about 2.94 amps at 12.6v.
I use it in my workshop mounted on a stick to blow dust toward larger exhaust fans. I did once use it on my Ceiling exhaust fan and it practically made my ears pop when I'd close the door, and it could be heard 100 yards away screaming like an incensed banshee.
The 60MMx25mm Delta fan I linked to a few posts ago is likely the incensed banshee's younger sister after her first moon.
Watch those finger tips! Whirrrrrrrrr--ThUNK!!---- Whirrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Arhghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!
My Noctua fans produce only a nice low Whoosh and I could stop the impellers with my tongue.
