All I can share is my observations... I was at 12.42V at Divide Campground, and at 12.94V when I shut off the motor in Missoula MT, about 130 miles up the road, driving 58 mph almost everywhere. Those were my DMM readings on the terminals... 12.94V after 3 minutes with parasitic 1AH per hour load still in place, tells me that the alternator topped it off in under 2.5 hours, in that example, at a temp of 48 to 53F. I noticed the same thing driving from a night at WalMart in Cedar City, UT to SLC going to Dal Soglio's for some biodiesel. 12.92V, I believe, that time, temps around 80F.
Just my observations, seems that 2 or 3 hours driving on the alternator tends to give me a voltage that indicates it's topped off. Whether or not it is scientific enough for anyone else here, oh well, I stand by my observations after 12 days doing 3200 miles in a big loop from LA, to Dillon, to Divide campground in Butte, to Missoula, over Lolo Pass on highway 12 to a night in Clarkston, then down the Columbia River to Troutdale, from there to Tillamook for a tour of the Tillamook cheese Factory and the Airplane museum. From there, a 1/2 day drive down to Florence to stay at Three Rivers Casino. Full 12 hour day from Florence OR to Corning, on the Sac River, in CA, then today, back to L.A.
