Does your Dometic refrigerator have frost on the fins?

I received an ad for Dometic on my computer. One of the items it had was to defrost your refrigerator periodically. I read the article/ad several times and it said refrigerator not the freezer.

I never have frost build up on the fins of my refrigerator. I have the thermistor up all the way. It is cold, yes. Does anyone have the frost build up on the fins of their refrigerator or are they speaking of the freezer?

Mine will frost depending on how humid it is and how often we open the door they can frost up fairly fast or not... Just now it's not. A fan inside the beast helps a bit it seems, but yes it will frost up

We use a lot of ice and the freezer frosts very quickly.. So when we shut down to defrost the freezer.. The fridge naturally self-defrosts even if we do nothing but move ice blocks (Blue-Ice type ice packs) down there to keep ti cool while we heat the top.
  • I left the fridge on this summer in the driveway for extra storage for partys and such. We had high temperatures and humidity and my Dometic 2 door frosted up to the point the ice spanned the distance between some of the fins, even with my circulating fan. Turned it off and a few hours later ice had melted.
  • I use something similar to this - Fridge Fan- moves enough air to eliminate the frost and distributes cold air evenly.
  • X2 on my Dometic single door with freezer at the top.

There is no such thing as an Auto Defrost switch. Norcold OR Dometic. Doug

  • Two door Norcold here. Yes, it does frost up depending on ambient temperature and on how long we have it running.

Easy and quick to defrost. I use a hair dryer to speed up the process.
  • Yes mine will frost up in hot weather after a month or so of operation. On a three month trip we may defrost the fridge (freezer AND fridge) at least twice. If you use the "climate" switch when in operation it will need defrosting less often but that's not a good option for those of us who dry camp often. It's a BIG battery draw when not on the grid.
