The spark would be at the little burner you claim you once saw through the peak-hole. Pushing the knob opens the gas valve, once lit the thermocouple gets hot and produces enough power to keep the valve open.
The burner flame is difficult to see in daylight!
The exploded view in the manual shows H and I the 'sparker' and thermocouple electrode @ the burner.
