Dometic Fridge too cold

In my 2000 Fleetwood Elkhorn the Dometic RM2453 fridge is getting too cold on gas and 120v. Haven't tried 12v. At the lowest setting it is still getting to about 32 degrees. This is right at the fins tho.

It does not have a thermistor which I can slide up or down. It has what appears to be a thermostat type sensor with a gas filled metal tube. I don't know of any other adjustments for the temperature. The past weekend it was ok as long as I didn't put my veggies up top but I am concerned in colder weather that I won't be able to keep it above freezing.

Any ideas? I can't find any info on how to test the thermostat.

  • I had one of those in a 2000-2001 Elkhorn - no matter what I set it to it would freeze everything in it over night. Giant "freezer" as it was if you got in/out of it enough during the day things would not freeze. Overnight was a different story.

Fridge too cold? What a hoot! My Dometic is running constantly during summer months and will barely stay at about 42-45. You must be living right. Quit complaining!

It might help to locate where the thermistor connects to the logic board, unplug and re-connect. I "fixed" one that way, apparently there was a little corrosion on its terminals. This was on a DM285-something so your design may be different. On the model I worked on, more resistance makes the cooling unit run longer, therefore colder.
  • Fridge too cold.......what a wonderful problem to have, you must be living right.
  • Also, is this with frig full or empty? Food usually changes the box temp quite significantly.
  • Turning thermostat control knob to 'OFF'
In gas mode.....closes main gas valve and burner runs in 'bypass' mode (just enough to keep flame lit)
    In electric mode....turns element OFF

Turning thermostat control know to 'MAX'
Gas mode or electric mode........ON continuously

Turning thermostat control knob in between OFF & MAX
Cooler cabinet temps closer to MAX
Warmer (less cool) cabinet temps closer to OFF

Fin temp of 32*F is OK..cabinet temps typically 10*F warmer

With thermostat control knob set to almost OFF does gas burner go into bypass mode and does electric element turn off when temp is reached?

Thermostat is still available (part number 2931336016)
