Dometic roof top shaking

Periodically having a problem with the roof a/c units shaking/rattling. It doesn't matter if they are in a/c mode or just the fan on. They don't do it all the time and if you turn the unit off for about a minute and restart sometimes the problem is solved. I've had the shrouds off checked to make sure the units were tight, spun the shaft on the motors and they seem fine as well. Any ideas what may be causing this??? They are the Penquin Dometic Low Profile Duo Therm Units.

  • Dirt dobbers more than likely have built a mud nest on the fan blades, very common problem. Get up on the roof and remove the cover and examine the fan blades. :)
  • These use squirrel cage blowers for both sides- I would say something gets in to the blower and unbalances it.
  • 1. Your outside Condensor impellor may have some broken vanes
    2. More likely----You have insect nests that are built onto those impellor cages and that imbalance causes the AC to vibrate. When you let it go and run, you must be breaking the nests loose when the vibration goes away. Take the top cover off and look at the Impellor. If you had mud nests the evidence will still be there.
