It is coming from a lake, so sand and debris can be sucked up, even if the intake is floating midway in the water column. If water sits, it could have something in it that could grow from a benign level to a dangerous level. Even your safest water has some things still in it, but at levels that are harmless. Since the water could be sitting for weeks or months at a time, I want to make sure it stays safe to drink when I turn on the taps.
