Drawing water from a lake

We drink straight out of a spring comeing out of the cave on our Arkansas property from out of lake, no way . If people swim you got bacteria such as Ecoli, Bottled water or get some of the 5gal drinking water containers and put just a few drops of bleach if being used over a long period.
If that lake water hasn't been tested by a laboratory you really don't know if or it isn't safe.
