IMO the fact you are getting 13a proves that controller works in MPPT.
Let's hope the other MPPTs come way down in price now.
I don't know if another MPPT would do better at making amps and if so, how many more amps would justify its higher price.
13a is a little low for the panel, but to get max, you need the sun high and the panel aimed right, in clear blue sky. High noon gives you the best chance to get max amps if high noon is high enough this time of year. I found here in summer, when aiming the panel, the sun didn't get high enough for max until mid-morning, but aiming always gets you more than not aiming.
With the money you saved on MPPT, you could get a second battery. I would not like to go camping with just one battery in hopes that solar would act as the second battery.
