I somewhat understand what you are saying and the words little use of the generator is what makes me the happiest. :) I can still get a second controller cheap in a auction and run the 220w panel too. Seems like overkill at this point but it would be nice for overcast days or flat mounting and not worrying about the tracking. It's nice to have options and after saving on the panels and controller, I'll splurge a bit on the bank. (maybe three 27s)

I don't understand enough to say for sure but from watching the controller with the old batteries and inverter I would have to say it is the voltage of the battery. The batteries would shoot up fast and go into float, then by using the inverter and a 100w and 60w bulb I could make the controller switch back and forth between bulk, absorb and float modes.
Don I thought about putting a load on or switching batteries but I didn't want to do anything that would make it so the battery wouldn't be charged at the end of this test. This weekend I'll do more test on both panels and with loads for max output.
