I was hoping to test the Canadian solar 220w today but it's thicker than pea soup up there. It has been a eye opener though. My plan since I got the two panels was to mount them flat on the trailer. That way even in less than idea conditions I would still have a charge. I think I'd be running the generator today even with both panels pointed at the sun.
There was just enough sun at noon to point the 230w panel. At that time I was getting between 1.9 and 2a in bulk. once the sun blotted out completely, that dropped to 1.75a. when the controller was in absorb it was about .3a lower so not much difference for MPPT at this low of light.
I've pretty much written off the MPPT demo function. Sometimes it says well over the PWM amps the panel is rated for and today it would just round up in the MPPTs favor (1.94 became 2) and then most of the time decided half for PWM. In todays case 2a MPPT-1a PWM but when it dropped to absorb it said 1.6a+ in PWM. So that function is a joke.
BTW I was looking through the auction history for the controller and the lowest I saw it go for with free shipping was $71
