Perhaps you take "dedicated" too narrowly.
yes, me too at times but the furnace is way too noisy and the fan draws a lot of power, so our preference is for a catalytic heater
don't see anything in the Sunbeam information to indicate that it doesn't run on mains power. Ones in Australia run on 230V. They do use electronics to regulate the power,
Clearly not the case with all electronic appliances.
Perhaps you haven't defined the discussion narrowly enough.
I thought we were discussion ONLY the electric blanket problem.
Apparently not......due to your later reference to other appliances.
I think you are making a lot of assumptions and many of them are wrong. There is not a lot of space inside most RVs and the "furnace fan" really doesn't have to draw a lot of power.
And maybe more importantly, catalytic heaters produce CO and elevated levels of CO, even below the "danger" point can produce some bad effects upon your health. NOT A GOOD IDEA unless they are directly vented.
And lastly, AC voltage can be cut down and rectified without a transformer.....with the proper electronics......which can be pretty simple and probably would NOT be affected by the shape of the input wave.
