- MEXICOWANDERERExplorerElectric cars are fine if they fit a person's lifestyle. I noticed in that video absolutely nothing was said about the cost of travel. That hotel in Austin, is a flea farm, been that way for forty years while I spent a winter there. Thank god that has a coal plant powering it.
The folks whom grew up there are pragmatic. But there was zero fresh produce. Had to drive 240 miles to Fallon to do that. - free_radicalExplorer

Put up solar panels and battery storage and you can drive on free energy even in the outback.

Youve answered your own question,
Your goverment doesnt care to suport solar clean energy but spending billions on Oil extraction even going to war is cool,,

If you cant comprehend that Sunshine is free I cant help you.. - I understand it is lower cost to build and operate a solar farm than it is to feed coal to a power plant. Never mind the cost to build that coal power plant. Building a coal plant would be a pure waste of money. The idea with solar is that the energy is free from that big fusion reactor in the sky.
I read Los Angeles just contracted for under 2 cents a kWh for a solar purchase agreement. With the contract includes overnight energy from batteries at 1.4 cents per kWh. Coal is doomed. Natural gas is on edge for emergencies. Nukes will be retired as soon as solar can be built. Cost just keeps dropping. - MEXICOWANDERERExplorercentral valley tour bus

From what I gather all new residential construction in California must include solar starting 2020. I think coal will hang around for another decade or two but even 15 years ago no one thought coal would be down to 20 percent of the grid supply by 2020. Right now it’s dropping about 1 percent per year in both the US and Canada. Canada is already down to 9 percent and the US is just passing thru 20 percent. Times are changing. Canada will completely phase out coal by 2030.
The average commuter needs about 8 kw per day. Pretty easy to generate that on a roof.- MEXICOWANDERERExplorerAnd who shall supply a billion-plus solar panels and top quality batteries every ten years or so? Before you spout off, think...
That's three panels per person for the US population. What? A three-meter by three-meter panel?
Hail Hail, the solar farm's all gone.
Opening the job market for the: no college youth. Squeegee, rag and a bucket. Hooray, no more timers the end of flipping burgers.
And of course the upcoming curious coincidence...
Acres of solar panels raise the air temperature beyond belief. Personal experience with a 15F difference.

Sure it's free on the 162 days of 365 we have it, but land, acres of panels, large battery storage facilities, connections to the grid, and the maintenance of all of it doesn't happen to be free.
It may be on Fantasy Island however, after you smoke a big fattie.
Perhaps you should move. A wanna, and a tooa, and a threea...........
