Electrical Gurus - LED Awning Light Install Question

OK, so there's been lengthy threads on other topics about installing LED awning lights, notably under the rail that the awning attaches to. As far as the power source, there seems to be two main camps for provision of power: (1) tie in to the porch light or (2) connect by running the line to the reefer and tie in there. I get that.

I want to tie in to the porch light. Seems pretty straightforward from everything I've read; either use an 1156/1141 base socket adaptor with the wires sticking out to connect the LED strip to or splicing in to the wiring there. I get that as well.

My question, to which I cannot find an answer, is regarding the bulb in the porch light. Other posts indicate an 1156 or 1141 bulb. My bulb has 1028 on it. I've searched Google for any sort of base socket adaptor for this type of bulb, but not finding anything. Can an 1156/1141 adaptor be used in place of the 1028 bulb? Or should I just splice in to the wiring and be done with it? Seems the adaptor would be the better way to go, since I won't have a need for the porch light any more, and the sensor for the LED strip can go inside the porch light housing.

LED bulb adapters have wire conductors so tiny you'd think you were working with human hair. Do the math with LED strip watts to amperage and stick with eighteen to twenty gauge connection wire. Personally I'd fit Weather Pac terminals so connections could be reconfigured. But that's me...
  • you gotta splice wires anyway, either the plug to the strip, or the strip to the light wires. Pick the easy way and splice in behind the porch light.
