I've been reading a lot about the need for surge protection between the camp site and the coach. Many have mentioned getting a progressive EMS but as I research, it seems I would need a separate one for 30A or 50A services. They are a bit pricey to get one for each service. For those of you that have them, do you just have one or the other or did you find something that wasn't too expensive and get one for each type of service?

The 50 will work for both. If necessary you can always get adapters from 30 to 50 and from 50 to 30. I only have the progressive 50.

And they do work! Mine shut power down 9 times in 4 days this past week for OVER Power condition. We had readings as high as 134 volts. Reported to campground and later they lost a transformer. Repaired that and still had over voltage. Don't really know how dangerous over voltage is but if my EMS is shutting us down it must be for a reason.

Which doesn't mean it has to be permanently hardwired in. Instead install it with a suitable set of connectors and a hardwire unit can be removed anytime, just like a portable version.

I just ordered one that plugs into the pedestal and then the coach plugs into that. Will give me a little more piece of mind while not costing too much or having to rewire.. might go with hard wired sometime in the future...

I got mine at Home Depot, $2.08/ft. I installed mine after the transfer switch so the trailer is protected with both shore and generator power. It was an easy install but working with #6 wire in a confined space is a little difficult. I purchased the EMS on Amazon.

Okay, so it seems I need a 50a EMS. I'll do some searches for recommendations as know there are tons of threads on that already. Thanks for the help!

No. You need one to match your RV service. 30a RV = 30a EMS. 50a RV = 50a EMS.
Standard adapter can be used with either to plug into any RV pedestal.
