Motorhomes have FMVSS certified door latches because they can be occupied while moving. Supposed to not pop open... Trailers have lesser latches because they aren't supposed to be occupied, so maybe they aren't as resistant to popping open.
Was just talking to my brother about RV doors and we noticed they're always hinged on the side toward the front of the unit. At least keeps a door from being ripped off by the wind if it opens.
