For sanity I'd bet that is a 1K pot. Start off with 900 ohms with the new pot and then dial it back. It'll spend most of it's life in a narrow band anyway. These critters will dial in, open circuit, not connected to anything. Might be best to shield the knob somehow. Mini U-bolts, whatever.
