BFL, I remember that thread when it was occurring but did not follow it closely I'll peruse it for info. Thx. Amazing I could not find it using the search function within this forum but it was the first hit on google.
Well, I took it apart again to check, and it is thermal grease between the mosfets and the thermal pad. Pretty sure it is not 'Sil-pad" brand as it does not appear the same visually, and the nature of the price of this product does not make it seem likely they'd use top end anything, which to me means keeping things cooler is even more important.
Looking closer at the mosfets which get pulled to the back of the case, I noticed they are different, slightly smaller, than the ones on the side of the case.
Anyway, for your viewing pleasure:

I did bust out the DMM and there is no conductivity across the pad. The center pin of the mosfet does have connectivity to the top of the mosfet where metal is visible.
