IMO this turned out for the best. I would have been disappointed had the Megawatt been the same. This gives a buyer a lot of options.
Connection to public power is the lynchpin of the decision whether or not to reach full absorbsion voltage instantly. When the Rolls bank gets recharged and I feel confident the power is going to stay on for awhile I let the Trace doing the recharge at a piddly 120 amps. But when the Kubota is fired off, the bank gets hammered with 530 amperes. Full absorbsion voltage.
In the last week we've had nine major power interruptions lasting two hours or more. The worst was Monday PM, night, early Tuesday, then flickering power then a seven hour night time blackout. This does not allow luxury in recharging C rates.
Charging At Full Absorbsion Rate
Amplitude and time spent at absorbsion max is a formula best derived from a customized program that is unique to each user. In the case of Landyacht it is definitely not in his best interest to charge at max. There is no need to do so.
But this thread bas permutated a lot. My original idea was for an inexpensive accessory to correct the idiocy of smart chargers, without needing to buy expensive charms, pendants or bracelets. A simple charge augmentation used with a spring wound wall timer, a four hour Intermatic. The Woozit super whammy didn't charge the batteries enough? Fine/ Spin the Intermatic dial and walk off.
The gentleman named Randy at Best Converter was perceptive enough to realize existing smart chargers are mostly hocus-pocus. He's bringing out an adjustable machine. But a cheap power supply can morph even a WFCO into a reasonably decent battery maintenance machine. Yes it does take effort to twist a timer dial.
I may be the principal culprit for bending this thread toward the power supply / battery charger emphasis. I need something to take with me on hotel trips own here. Something that will not screw around when I only get an hour or so recharge time for the group 31 AGM.
This is a fun subject. I play with it. But I have to remember to stop and clarify once in awhile.
