Just to support what I believe LY is saying, nobody's attempting to force amps into a battery. Even though we may have different needs to fill with these power supplies, the goal is similar: To supply a set number of amps at a set voltage (user defined) for a set time frame.
Remember, as the battery approaches that voltage the amps are going to fall naturally. What LY is trying to prevent, is the situation where a large and/or depleted battery bank can accept more amps than the power supply is rated for--and what does the power supply do?
The cheapowatt catches fire. Knowing this, anyone who would use one of these where they may be overdrawn is just asking for trouble, IMO.
I've seen the hiccup protection mentioned, but in the case of the meanwell the overamp condition must be removed for the power supply to bring itself back online, AFAICT. Again, this just doesn't seem compatible with the intended use.
The constant current limiting seems to be what's needed here, and in my limited trial it seems to work as promised. I grant you I may have missed plenty, but if I was looking to buy a power supply to use as a charger, I would think constant current protection would be a requirement. And even the expensive Meanwells are still half the price of an equivilent charger.
FWIW!
